Ty kicked one of the stones as she walked along the path through the park. It was the middle of the day and not too many people were around. The park never really was known as a hang out spot, and it was probably what drew Ty to it the most. She didn’t like being in huge crowds of stupid people and in Haddonfield she felt like it was inevitable. However, the park was all the more empty because it was the middle of the day and most of the teenagers that might have been found in the park were in school. It was one of those days where she was not in the mood to go to school, and so she simply walked out of the building. No one bothered to stop her, no prefect, teacher, or administrative staff would bother. The whole town seemed to have decided that she was a lost cause, and Tyra had come to accept that fact. In her own opinion there was simply no way she would get anywhere in life. The closest she would get to the ‘good’ boys was sleeping with them while they were in high school, and the closest she would get to a good grade was screwing her teachers.
It was an unfortunate misconception that Tyra was a whore, but a title that traveled around none the less. Unlike Jack’s image of her sleeping with everyone, she only slept with a select few and it was usually for a reason that she chose them. There was something about Jack that she found appealing, and she couldn’t help herself, though often times she wish she could. Even Mr. MacDonald had that something that made her incapable of saying no, and the same went for Theo. Tyra was simply unaware of the easy answer. Each of the guys in her life made her feel needed and wanted, and it made all the difference in the world, whether or not it was genuine on their part.
As she walked she could not help but let her mind wander. She paused momentarily at the small pond where there was an old couple feeding ducks. Digging her hands in the pocket of her sweater she thought about what trouble she could possibly get in for just standing there in the park. Surely she would get in trouble for skipping class, but there was so much other wrong she was doing that she knew she couldn’t hide from forever. She was sleeping with Jack and Theo which she knew was bad enough, but when she found out that Jack’s real father was Mitchell, well things quickly went from bad to worse. Her fear of being left completely alone by all of them was frightening, and was the only reason she was now all the more eager to keep it a secret. Attempting to shake the thought from her head she continued walking, past the pound and toward the small playground. There were no kids there, and so everything lay still and cemented, giving the place an eerie look on the cool day. She had kicked the stone at her feet all the way from the front of the park and now she kicked it into the rocks that covered the play area. The thought passed her mind that someone had kicked the rock all the way from here to the entrance and she had undone what they did. Even unintentionally she figured she was destructive and ruining things. Because the thoughts that passed through her head were so depressing she became upset with herself, for letting it happen, promising herself mentally to do something fun later that night. Taking a seat on one of the swings she gently began to swing back and forth.

Theo had sat through two whole periods of English before he decided he’d had enough. He pulled on his jacket and walked straight passed his math class room. He smirked as he ran down the steps to the entrance. He enjoyed the smooth feeling as the wind soothed over his shaven head. It wasn’t really hard to decide what he was going to do. Living on campus was difficult because when you skived school they always found out. Theo swiftly made his way to his dorm, his hood over his head, trying to be inconspicuous. Once inside he made his way to his room, wasting no time. He rapidly changed into his sweat pants and a white vest, pulling on his grey full zip hood. He pushed his feet into his running shoes, and armed with his iPod, cell, house key and some change, he headed out towards the park. It was a good place to go running it was never too busy, and now during the day, he knew its inhabitants would be few and far between.
It was a short jog to the park, and he ran at a steady pace. The light breeze crossed his skin as his jacket hung loosely around his shoulders, exposing his tattooed biceps. The Kings of Leon beating out in his ears causing him to run at a specific pace to the beat of the tunes. He entered the park, a few dog walkers passed by him, but no one particular. It was a peaceful place, which looked good in the summer as the greenery displayed its beauty. In the summer it was a place for romantic walks and picnics. Today however, there were few lovers to be seen. He looked up toward the playground, and he noted a petite blonde he knew all too well. Theo smiled lightly his eyes flickering over her features as she swung gently backwards and forwards.
His relationship with Tyra was as complicated as ever. He had known her for a long time, and they had always flirted. Sexual tensions had ran high, but at the time, Theo hadn’t been split up from Sienna too long, and it was obvious he was still in love with her. But six months passed by and they ended up together on a night out. Theo had continued to sleep with her on and off, but their relationship had never been exclusive. He was well aware that she also slept with other people, and he came and went as he pleased. He enjoyed her company a lot, and to him, it was never just sex. He couldn’t imagine Tyra being complete in a relationship and he often anticipated she’d be this way forever.
Theo slowed to a walk, and made his way over to her, addressing her from behind, emerging silently from the bushes. He grabbed the swing in midair, and wrapped his steady arms around her waist his lips brushing her neck as he whispered her name in her ear. Without a word he moved to face her, his hands releasing her as he brought the swing to a slow stop. A light smile on his face. ”Hey Ty, what’s going on?” He asked as he sat down on the seat next to her, tucking his iPod into his pocket.

Her mind wandered as she swung, listening to the quietness around her. It was not often that she was in a place of complete silence and she rather liked it now that she was there. Ty was a bit of a conundrum even to herself, because while she loved this peace and quiet she also strived to find a place in the world of people, but finding silence was so much easier. It was because of her concentration on her surroundings that Theo’s steps were unheard and when he wrapped his arms around her a small gasp escaped her lips and her body tensed in his grasp. Out of her peripherals she could make out Theo’s form and was able to know the voice as his. “Shit Theo,” she said in greeting, finally able to breath as he slowed her swing to a stop.
She watched him as he took a seat on the swing beside her. Her eyes grazed over him taking in all his features and clothing. It amazed her that jocks like Theo and Jack gave her the time of day, but then it fit the pattern that most of those guys wanted the freaky girls, or the girls they thought were like that, but were stuck with blonde bobble heads because of the anarchy of high school social order. At the same time, she had only known Theo to have one serious girlfriend and she had been in the same clique as Ty herself. It was funny that Jack thought Ty was jealous of Larissa, when in actual fact she was more jealous of Sienna who seemed to have Theo all wrapped up. She had never been in a relationship and figured she would be terrible at it, but she knew guys, at least the ones she slept with, sometimes more than they realized, and she knew that Theo was not down with his feelings for Sienna. Since Ty forced herself not to hope or dream for anything, she did her best to be happy with what it was she had.
“Wasn’t in the mood for class,” she shrugged in answer to his question, “and I always liked the park,” she told him. In fact, as a child she had liked it so much that when she would run away from home, her mom would usually find her sleeping somewhere in the jungle gym, though no one knew that about her. Momentarily she glanced down at her feet before looking back up at Theo. “And you?” she asked, “Pretty rebellious for a jock to be leaving school this early,” she teased. She knew that they had to be in school and had to do well to stay on the team. Since she was sleeping with two players and the coach, Ty knew far more about football than she cared for. She had even been to a few games for lack of something better to do, or because she was just in the mood. “Where’s the posse?” she asked looking around as though expecting the rest of the preps and jocks to show up and just stand around Theo. It was something she appreciated about Theo, he was never rude to her. Not like Jack. Even if his school friends were around he would at least smile at her even if he didn’t want to say hi. It was what made the fact that she was hiding the fact she slept with Jack so much worse and so much harder for her.

Theo heard her small gasp, and a smile developed on his lips. He felt her body tense but he did not stop the playful attack. As she spoke his name he realised she recognised him maybe his voice was the give away. ”Hey Ty.” He stated a smile lingering on her lips as she began breathing again. He loved to scare people, it was probably one of the reasons he was in Lockdown, because what he was sure about, was the fact that he hadn’t believed in any of the Myer’s shit. Not until he was attacked by him any way. Now things were different, and not only was there talk of a curfew, you could sense the tension in the atmosphere as folks went about their daily life. ”How’ve you been?” He asked her curiously, she hadn’t been in contact with him. It always made him wonder who she’d been with, and it was something he didn’t really like to contemplate. Not because he wanted her to be hers, or that he wanted their relationship to be exclusive. No. he wasn’t sure why he was jealous, but the feeling was strong.
He noted her eyes trace his body and he smirked. He liked being checked out, especially by someone he liked. There was something about Tyra, maybe it was her lack of respect or the fact that she just didn’t care, that drew him to her. He guessed if Sienna moved away he’d more than likely allow himself to fall for the blonde, but at the moment he couldn’t take that risk. Theo however, knew not to hold his hopes out on Sienna because it was quite clear she had moved on. Tyra on the other hand, well Theo was convinced he’d never trust her. Not properly. So sex was fine for now.
He nodded as she answered his question; it was a blatant obvious one to ask a rebel really. They never could be bothered by class, it wasn’t as if their future held much hope for them. ”Yeah the park reminds me of California. Back in Cali we used to hang out in the park after school. Get drunk and cause trouble.” He smiled, it was a totally different life to the current one he was living. He often liked to think about it, and what would or wouldn’t have happened had he not moved to Illinois. ”I… I couldn’t face going to math.” He shrugged casually. ”You know I don’t necessarily follow the rules Ty. Sure I gotta get grades and shit but its not like I sit there like the nerd or something.” He rolled his eyes, as he dug his feet into the rubble pushing himself backwards. He found it amusing that everyone in a particular clique had been stereotyped. ”The posse? I’m on my own kid. Need space from the false plastic world of preps.” He laughed slightly grabbing the chain to her swing, pulling her closer slightly. ”Jack said you come round the other day… sorry I was out.” He stated suggestively, guessing she’d come round for him when in actual fact she’d been round for Jack. Theo had no idea that Jack was sleeping with Ty, if he did, he’d probably have ended it. ”You should have text me. I wasn’t up to much. Just cant stand being in that flat too long.”

She could see the smile on his face and knew full well that he was proud of himself, and had it been someone else, she might have made a comment about being obnoxious. However, Theo was nowhere near obnoxious, at least not in her eyes, and so she kept silent, smiled and just shook her head. There was a large difference between the simple question of ‘how are you’ when Theo asked and when other people asked. Either he was far better at convincing her that he cared or he actually did and it made his question sound so much more genuine. While she made the effort to pretend other people cared she had convinced herself that Theo actually did. “Naughty as usual,” she said with a mischievous grin on her face. Just because she thought he cared and he was hopelessly delicious, did not mean that she was about to spill her heart and soul out to the guy. No, it was far better to lock up in a box, at least at this point. The one thing you could always expect of Tyra was that you would never know what to expect. Today she was playful and hiding the things that hurt, but on another day she would be mean and bitchy to whoever approached her, regardless of how much she cared about them, and on another day she would be telling you all about her woes and troubles. On that day she was not in the mood to talk to Theo about how much she hated life.
A laugh escaped her mouth when he explained what he and his friends had done in California, or ‘Cali.’ “Cause trouble?” she asked with an eyebrow raised, “Please don’t leave me guessing,” she prompted, wanting to know what it was that Theo considered drunken trouble. Tyra simply nodded when he mentioned math, unbeknownst to Theo it was the only class that Tyra went to, and one that she actually excelled in. No thanks to teachers or guidance counsellors she had found a class that she was truly interested in, and had a desire to learn more of. She not only did her homework but wrote tests and exams. Throughout high school her math teachers had tried to get her participating more in class, one even attempted to have her join mathletes, but it was of no interest to Ty and she shrugged it off. She did math for herself, not for anyone else. When the word ‘kid’ left his mouth it caused a smile to flicker on Ty’s lips. While it was a term that made have been demeaning in another sense, Tyra actually liked hearing it. It was reminiscent of a pet name that wasn’t anything like ‘babe’ or ‘dollface,’ which were equally cold and easily used as a name replacement when a guy forgot your name. “Good, I was worried one of these days you’d become a little shiny,” she teased. She had no fear at all that Theo would become like one of the preps, he was not like Jack at all, but maybe he would become more friendly with them, and forget about older friends or acquaintances, or whatever it was they were. Her feet were not resting on the ground and so she was easily pulled by Theo’s tug. “You’re right, I should have,” she said a little more softly and more to herself than him. She should have left Jack a long time ago but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. “You can always come to mine when yours is too rough, though I can’t promise mine won’t be,” she teased. She was granted residency from the school on subsidy even though her mother lived a few streets away, and many nights she would just stay at home rather than go to the dorm room.

Theo raised his eye brows as Tyra responded. ”Naughty huh? What’s naughty about you today Tyra?” He asked, his blue eyes tracing over her petite form obviously. Tyra didn’t exactly fall under the ‘nice girl’ category, but he knew she was more than popular with the guys. Many of the jocks thought she was hot but because of her rebellious attitude and reputation for drugs they wouldn’t go near her. Theo however had overlooked it, and it had been worth it. She was hot, petite, blonde, and she knew exactly what to do to press the right buttons. She was a good catch but that was probably all she was. She wasn’t the type of girl that you could take home to your parents and show off. But what did that matter? His parents were dead. But he knew his sister would never approve. She didn’t approve of Sienna initially and Tyra was even less behaved. Not like Theo really approved of his sisters boyfriend, but what did that matter? He shrugged his shoulders carelessly, he didn’t have to be serious or knowledgeable or even directional around Tyra because mostly their relationship was carefree and based on sex, which is somewhat what he was expecting today. She was somewhat too tempting to resist and since he knew what to expect and how unpredictable she could be, it made everything just that little bit more entertaining.
He smirked as she questioned him, he guessed she thought most jocks were innocent and stuck by the rules, but in California Theo hadn’t really fallen into the jock category, he’d been more rebellious. He shrugged his shoulders guessing she wouldn’t really think what he thought was trouble was reasonable. ”Well we’d always start off in the park. Get drunk. Once, one of my friends stole a car, and we went joyriding, then climbed onto the school roof and had a bbq with one of them disposable things. No one realised we were there until we threw the bbq off the roof. It set fire to this area where they had flowers and shit. I got suspended for a month. My parents didn’t like it one bit!” He smirked chuckling slightly as he remembered that specific incident. ”There were others like it, but that one was pretty crazy.” He laughed slightly, ”What’s the worst thing you’ve done?” He asked, knowing whatever she came up with would probably top his. He laughed and shrugged his shoulders as she implied that he’d become fake like many of the preps, ”Nope, the only thing plastic is my bank card.” He smirked. Theo had no worries about becoming a prep, in all honesty he couldn’t stand them. He was only a jock because he’d been labelled because he was into sports, it was kind of something that just stuck. Theo raised his eyebrows, she’d never really invited him to hers before. He’d probably be a bit apprehensive if her mother was there, it wasn’t like he wanted to be known as the guy who came round for sex. ”Which yours? Your mom’s or your dorm?” He asked her curiously.

“Your imagination running low today?” she questioned when he asked how exactly she had been naughty. Gossip went around the school and around some of the town about all her naughtiness. Though much of what was said could be exaggerations or lies, it was usually based off of some truth to begin with. She had not done anything particularly bad on that day, or anything she thought to be incredibly bad, though others may have thought differently. After all, she had skipped class and spent most of the morning flirting with teachers at school rather than going to her scheduled classes. She was sure that the people that passed her in the hall would give her a much more interesting day when they talked about her later. It was much easier on her part to let others imagine what they would like rather than bother herself with explanations about how she was actually a regular person who just followed the ego rather than the id like so many of the people in town.
Her eyes slowly moved away from his face as he spoke of his mischief and out into the park. She did her best in attempting to see what it would have been like to meet the rebellious joy riding and thieving Theo. When she had first met him she had immediately liked him more than could be said for many other jocks, but she wasn’t sure if she would have liked the unruly Theo. There was something she liked about the good hearted Theo who just had a dash of trouble maker in him. It was not that she disliked herself, because that was completely untrue. Ty loved herself, her freedom and the spontaneity of her life, but when it came to the people she was with emotionally, she sought after the stable ones. “Pretty crazy,” she said with a nod, her eyes still gazing into the distance imagining she could see the drunken Theo stealing a barbeque just beyond the park. “To tell you the truth I probably don’t remember the worst thing I’ve done,” she said truthfully with a shrug. There was a period of her life, one that she did not enjoy thinking about or talking about, where she remembered very little because of drug use. She was sure that Theo had no idea how much he was a part of helping her come out of that part in her life. It was at that point that she turned her gaze back to him. He didn’t know, and he never would, none of the Lockdown crew would ever know what they had done for her.
A smile crept onto her face when he told her the only plastic thing was his bankcard. It was probably nice to own a bankcard, just to be able to say ‘charge’ and not have to worry about paying for anything until later. She swayed a little on her swing and then started to pump her legs gaining height. “I’m not taking you home to meet my mother,” she said with a scoff. None of her friends had ever met her mother, and though it was something that caused arguments at home she would not give in. It was far too personal to bring people to meet her mother and she did not have that kind of trust that her friends would stick around, and so why should she let them into her life? She also knew that her mother had dealt with enough shit in her life, and was now a hardworking good person, and she didn’t want anyone judging her mother or laughing at her for any reason. She couldn’t trust anyone to appreciate her mother except for her and so she kept her mother at a distance from everyone else in her life. She was now swinging at quite a height and speed and it was then that she looked down at her watch. “I should probably go,” she said more to herself than to Theo. She had math homework that was due the next morning, of course there was probably other work, but none that she intended to do.
