Hayven stood at the bottom of the first floor staircase, handing out different colored pamphlet's. Swirls of greens, pinks, purples and reds escaped her fingers as any and all students passed by her.
Some took them without so much of a word to her, some refused and then others took them, spouted off about how vegetarians were killing the world in reality and crumpled the paper up in front of her face.
Hayven said little to nothing about people's opinions, after all they were idiots and wrong in her eye's. Soon the hallway was empty and she was left standing alone; practically. Some sat against a wall and whispered, pretending to study, but she knew they were talking about her. A few others would come her way then turn on their heels to escape her wrath. This was not a new scene for Hayven and word had probably got out by now that she was at it again. She sighed and slumped down to the stair, sitting on it as she looked at the pamphlet that showed different statistics when it came to not eating animal products. Hayven pressed her lips into a thin line, sighed and tossed the pamphlets into the trash next to the staircase.

Jack was heading down the staircase when he looked beneath to the bottom as a familiar face seemed to be giving out leaflets without much luck. He’d spent a lot of his time in Lockdown torturing Hayven for any little thing but today he felt a bit bad as he slowly took each step towards the bottom. It was sad to see how much effort she put into things, and how much commitment, for people to just throw them away when all she really wanted was to have her word spread, and her opinion spread. He could never really do anything like that, he didn’t have the patience to but he admired her heart for it.
He hurried down quickly when he saw her bin the flyers and took a seat next to her on the step. He only had English class, he didn’t really care too much if he was late or not, it’s not like it mattered. He rested his arms on his knees and looked sideways at her, sighing softly. ”You know Hay, you never gave me one of those pamphlets,” he said softly as he studied her face. If she didn’t dress so weirdly he would probably have sex with her, actually no Jack would sleep with anyone so he would probably sleep with Hayven too but it would have to be a secret because he wouldn’t want people knowing she was on his record. He sighed and shook his head as if to wipe it from his thoughts. Now was not the time. ”You wanna tell me about what was on those leaflets? Maybe make me convert?” he asked in the same quiet tone. If she wasn’t in Lockdown he wouldn’t be making the effort but he felt bad, and people didn’t give her the credit she deserved.

Hayven felt a presence before she had seen it and when she saw who it was she pressed her lips into an even thinner smile. She looked at Jack and then at the bin as he gave off the inkling that he would have wanted one of her fliers.
Hayven shrugged her shoulders lightly and pulled at her brown hair as she sighed. "I kinda took you for a meat guy." Hayven let the corners of her mouth turn upwards into a small smile.
Her eyes went back to the trash bin and her smile doubled in size when he asked her to talk about them. Of course she would, even it if was just Jack.
"Well for starters, did you know that it takes three times the amount of fuel to raise an animal before it is killed? Think of not only the fact that we are killing an animal, but how much fuel we would save and how the prices would go down!" Hayven began to talk just a little bit faster, clearly she was excited talking about this.
"Which means we could use all the money we save on rising fuel prices on something better. Fun." Hayven twisted the silver metal ring on her index finger as she continued on.
"Don't even get me started on what they do to the animals before they even kill them." Hayven stopped talking immediately and looked down to the ground. Jack was part of lockdown and she didn't need to add any more fuel to the fire by having him think she was a nut case or tell anyone else about this.

”Well I am a meat guy but I’m willing to listen to you. Who knows maybe this time next week I’ll be standing here with you handing these things out,” He shrugged, that was never happening. His reputation would die, or maybe nothing would happen to his reputation but maybe everyone would start doing what the pamphlets said, or maybe he really just didn’t have the type of power or status that he thought he had so maybe the idea of sitting with her shouldn’t be as embarrassing as he thought it was. But this was to prove that Jack was no jackass like he was described to be. Although well he knew he was, so maybe this would be to earn him an entry into Heaven. Her smile caused him to smile though, which was quite odd, because usually her smile caused a smart comment from him which would encourage her not to smile. Today though he simply returned the smile and kept his tongue in check. Today was a day to be nice and not arrogant but he couldn’t help but roll his eyes at least once before she started.
”No I didn’t know that,” Jack admitted as he tried to appear enthusiastic about what she was saying. The whole fiasco was really sweet and cute if he was honest, it was strange how people could get so passionate about things when the only passion he had was getting revenge for his dead brother and killing himself in the process. He envied her. ”The prices of fuel? Hey it would cost less to fill up a car!” Jack said encouragingly. He should probably find Larrissa and make her listen to this, her and her friends, but then she’d probably accuse him of having another affair. Which was totally unfair as he was simply only wanting to be kind today. Jack sighed as she seemed to lose focus, or something was bothering her. He stood up tall and skipped past her towards the bin as he grabbed the lose pamphlets. He really couldn’t believe he was doing this but apparently one good deed had turned to two. ”Well if you want to make vegetarianism spread you have to make it sound cool – lower gas prices is very cool I think at least. And hey, don’t give up. You always mouth off at me whenever I be a prick so you can sure as Hell do it to these losers who don’t pick these up!” Jack said as he grabbed a hold of her hand and tried to pull her up from the step. Physical contact with girls was always something he tried to get into a conversation. ”I will go vegetarian for a month for you, and I’ll get sponsored for it and all the money can go towards veggie awareness, huh?” Or rather his college tuition fund was a more needy charity but he was making an attempt to cheer her up and college really could wait a year or two.

Hayven saw the rolling of the eyes from Jack, but she expected no less from him. It was after all, Jack. It seemed she had hit something with him though, perhaps a small cord with the mention of fuel prices. A small spark of life went back into her eyes, after all if she could convert or even almost convert Jack, then she could probably get a few more students by the end of the night.
She watched as he stood up and made his way over to the bin and picked out one of her colored fliers. Her jaw almost dropped as he began to speak, stunned and surprised. This wasn't the Jack she had known, perhaps he was drunk or on his way to being drunk. No matter the cause, Hayven kind of liked this new version of Jack.
His hand reached out for her's and she took it willingly, getting up from the step. Her jaw did drop when his offer of helping her out was spoken and she almost felt the need to hug him. She wouldn't of course; that dumb bimbo of a girlfriend might be around the corner and the fact that it was Jack.
A small nervous laugh left her lips as she thought about it. "Really? A whole month?" Hayven's body seemed to get a burst of energy as her steps seemed to almost turn into a bounce.
"That would be; well, amazing!" Hayven's voice lightened as she almost yelled those words in the hallway. "I don't even know what to say. Thanks." Hayven pulled at her brown hair again, pulling off her shoulders, her eyes darting around for that blond tart of a girlfriend.
"What about your...." Hayven paused and looked away to roll her eyes now. "Girlfriend? Won't she wonder about the odd appetite change?" Hayven's eyes returned to Jack's as she inquired about them in a round about sort of way.

Jack shrugged, he hadn’t really thought much about it but he was doing really reckless things right now anyway like sleeping with whoever, jumping into ponds, going into Michael Myers’ house and whatever else so surely changing his diet for a month wouldn’t be so bad. He did like meat but there were replacements and stuff weren’t there? Surely he could eat loads of healthy stuff and still be the same, he could take protein tablets too. It seemed manageable although later he would probably deeply regret it and screw up. Commitment was a no go area when it came to Jack, she’d probably have to keep him on course. ”Sure, why not... just remind me every now and then.” He pulled at the tie of his school uniform and loosened it dramatically. He was really quite shocked at everything that was happening, at what he was doing. He didn’t even recognise himself, surely soon enough he would end up blowing this nice streak by being the biggest jerk on the planet. ”No problem, what do I eat?” he asked as he held out a leaflet to a random passerby without paying much attention to their reaction.
A small smirk developed over his features as she mentioned his girlfriend. ”Speaking of Larrissa I think if you want to get these out soon you should go and put on a skimpy skirt and some low cut top and you’ll have no problem,” Jack said as he edged closer to her with each word, on his final word his hands skimmed her waist and he leaned in and began to kiss her. It was almost a statement as if to say who cares what his girlfriend thought but Jack just couldn’t keep his hormones in control. Perhaps this was the biggest jerk action in the planet he mused as his hands found home on her bum. She would probably kill him, he was waiting for it.

Hayven was about to tell Jack just what sort of diet and how much protein he would need to keep track of when he started to demoralize her pamphlet handling skills, with a nice heaping cart of male chauvinism on the side. Her brown pupils rolled as far back as they could to her, possibly even to the back of her skull at all that.
As he came closer to her, Hayven stepped back until she was up against the wall and there was no where for her to go. Her breathing became rigid and almost panicky as his hands skimmed her waist and then he began to kiss her. Hayven froze, literally. Her brain reminded her of this being the real Jack that she knew and that he had simply said what she wanted to hear to get her to this very spot this very second.
When his hand reached down to her backside, Hayven jumped in surprise and it made her finally react. She pushed him with all her might, giving her a few seconds of space.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Hayven ripped the pamphlet out of his fingers and poked him square in the chest. She was going to give him hell, just like she normally did.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" Hayven continued to poke into his chest, infuriated by Jack. "News flash for you Jack, I'm not like that tart of yours or those other things you spend time with." Hayven's cheeks turned a bright red as she went on.
"I thought for a second you were almost human." She huffed lightly. "How very stupid of me."
"Disappointing, really." She shook her head. "Forget about helping me, I wouldn't take your help if it was the last opportunity of it on earth." With that Hayven stomped on his right foot as hard as she could and flipped him off and headed to her locker.

Jack growled as she pushed him back. It wasn’t the usual reaction he got from girls but then again the usual girls he went for weren’t anything remotely like Hayven. Everyone deserved rejection at least once, only Jack deserved it more than once and maybe he was getting his comeuppance. His mouth slightly ajar, he raised an eyebrow as if looking for some explanation from her which would explain why she had committed such a strange act. He felt as though she owed him something now as she rejected his statement about his girlfriend. Jack had always believed that actions stated things louder than words but apparently Hayven was less than agreeable. At least with this statement. ”What’s wrong with me?! What’s wrong with you, you rejected me! People don’t just reject Jack Banner. You’re lucky I even considered you!” he responded In an angered manner as he stood straight, the pamphlets in his hands suddenly becoming not very desirable to hold. His raised eyebrows quickly turned into a scowl as she poked him in the chest. Jack’s mouth opened as if to respond but instead he had to hold himself back for just a moment of so. ”Hang on, pokey, you know who I am. And you should know that before you pushed me away. That was the only crime that occurred here, right now, right this moment. You should be writing me a check for damages!” he insisted arrogantly. Hayven had too much respect for herself and he respected that but he didn’t respect being rejected and that was a shame. ”In comparison to you? At least I make out with people and share intimacy, you on the other hand, you’re a fucking stiff board. Who gives a shit about the animals just start living life!” he lectured, although all of this insulting was just coming from his humiliation from being rejected. Jack was very vain when it came down to it. ”No but I bet you’d take my cock!” As she stamped on his foot Jack let out a loud shriek of pain. "You BITCH!" He ran after her and grabbed her hand, "Forget coming to Lockdown ever again, I'm going to make sure they vote you out!" he promised. It could never happen but Jack was occasionally delusional.

Hayven heard every word he said, especially the bitch word. Perhaps she was a bitch to some extent, but it was that that made her feel in control and collected.
His hand reached out for her's and took it, having her stop moving and face Jack. His threat made her raise her eyebrows and she laughed; hard.
"Please Jack. I've never met someone so full of themselves. Come back down here, to the real world." If she thought about it, she was on the same spectrum as Jack, she too full of her own bullshit. Hayven knew damned well he wouldn't and couldn't kick her out, because she had a little bit of leverage.
"And while you're talking about damages, what about that cheap feel on my ass back there?" Hayven took a step closer to Jack, slightly amused at his idea of her paying him for hurting his big ego.
Though she did have to admit to herself that Jack was right on one thing. Hayven cared about everything else in the world but herself when it came down to it, so much she evaded intimacy as if it were a plague of sorts. But in her mind, he was wrong. She could be close to anyone that she wanted to be. She would prove it too. And there in laid out the pan work for a challenge. Something she secretly loved and thrived on.
"You really don't think I could be intimate with anyone?" Hayven frowned for a second as she looked at Jack.

As she laughed in his face it felt like the equivalent to her spitting in his face. What a torturous way to humiliate him, and he’d been nice to her to begin with as well. Jack looked around to check if anyone was listening or following their show. It appeared like maybe they were a little bit but pretending not to and that made it more embarrassing because he could hardly give someone the finger when it could have easily just have been him being paranoid. ”I’m called Jack! I’m supposed to be full of myself!” he snapped back at her as his eyes fell upon her own ones. ”This is so lame, you shouldn’t even tell me what to do, you should have been dreaming about that moment. I mean what the fuck is with you?!” He dropped a hold of her hand and sighed. This was pointless but Jack was filled with too much anger from past events to really rationalise with himself.
He felt his eyes widen as his face reacted in the same foaming manner. ”YOU SHOULD HAVE PAID ME FOR THE ‘CHEAP FEEL’!” He yelled, his tone full of aggression. He had a problem with anger, a really bad problem. He sometimes tried to tell himself that the person he was yelling at was Michael and that if he pictured his face as theirs he could beat them to death, hurt them, pull the final trigger to end their precious life with one final blow. But he had to hold back. If he wanted to avoid Smith’s Grove he had to calm down. Jack sighed dismally as he breathed through his nose slowly and out through his mouth, he was supposed to do this whenever he felt angry. He’d spoken to a therapist about it after his brothers death. It had minimal affects. ”Please, you’re a fucking virgin. You’re a prude, you wouldn’t and you couldn’t.” he stated flatly as he leaned against the locker in an attempt to calm himself down, avoiding her gaze.

Hayven knew that this wasn't going to end pretty for the either of them. She had taken Jack as just Jack before today and now since he demanded she fawn all over him, she saw him as something else. Something she almost loathed.
Hayven heard what he said and let him speak his mind. He had always been so full of himself and so angry that it almost made her feel sorry for him. Not the genuine type of course, but the type that made her think about where he would be in 10 years from now.
And then he said it. He went for the final kill and told her exactly what she had asked for. She knew that he knew that he was right too and that was what hurt the most. Hayven took a step back as she watched him do the same, though he stopped at a locker because it blocked him from moving any further.
As Hayven looked at him, he looked away because he knew he was right. But she wanted him to be wrong, she wanted to tell him that he was wrong. Especially when a few kids made it known that they had heard every word he said and talked about it with their friends as they gathered around their lockers.
Hayven held her head up high and made her way back over to Jack. "Screw you." She hissed at him, her voice low so that he could only hear her.
"While I'm off lacking any connections from my lack of sexual rampages, you're doing the same thing. Each and everyone of your relationships are superficial, giving you a false sense of connection." She took another step closer to him, her face still red, but not as angry as it once was.
"You wouldn't know a real connection if it bit you in the ass. I might protest for things you see as mundane but they mean a hell of a lot more to me than you think of those casual flings of yours." Hayven was hurt and she wanted to hurt him back. "Admit it. Name one person you are close to, that you are intimate with outside of sex." Hayven stopped right in front of Jack now, her eyes on his face as she waited to hear that she was right.

Jack sighed deeply as he forced himself to look ahead. He hated this conversation, he knew it was true and he hated that she did too. If he was honest with himself he didn’t really have anyone but he wanted to make excuses too, he always had an excuse for his behaviour. His brother died, his dad turned abusive, his mom left, these were all excuses which didn’t excuse his behaviour and he knew that too, but he didn’t know why he was the way he was and he was too afraid to find out or try and change it. He was locked in his own little bubble, his arms constantly trapped around his body not letting anyone close enough, as though his own body multiplied into body guards which pushed away everyone, anyone and anything that right to come near. But he didn’t want to have this conversation, especially not with Hayven. But she put him on the spot. ”Larrissa,” Jack said quietly as he stumbled out the words It wasn’t true but he had no one else to tell her and Larrissa was the obvious one. ”I love her... and anyway it has nothing to do with you, nothing at all. I mean seriously, who do you think you are questioning me about who I’m close to? It’s not as if you have a connection to anyone other than your dumb pets!” Jack scolded back.

Hayven crossed her arms and raised her eyebrows at the mention of his girlfriend's name. An amused look played on her face as she listened to him lie about how he loved her. If he loved her, why was he banging every chick practically in the school?
"Right." Hayven muttered, her face still amused. When he tried to turn the attention back on to her, Hayven was still amused. Her mind began to work over time as something had been seeded into it. It seemed almost stupid and it probably was, but she took the shot anyways.
"Seems we have something in common, just opposite spectrum's." Hayven mused out loud for them both to hear.
"Isn't that something?" Hayven couldn't believe that the one person she probably disliked the most in the school was just like her; almost.
Hayven's eyes lowered for a moment and then she placed a hand on his shoulders. "Look, I'm sorry." Hayven's amber colored eyes flicked up from the floor as she spoke. It was rare for her to back down and to say sorry, so it took a lot of swallowing of her pride.
"How about we agree to not talk about how fucked up we are anymore?" She actually felt a little bad for opening up wounds that Jack had, he had his reasons as did she for the way she acted. Her idea still nagged at her and finally she just blurted it out.
"Want to go out sometime?" Hayven removed her hand off his shoulder and took a step backwards, ready for some smart ass comment to escape Jack's lips.

He wondered if she would attack him openly for the school to hear, there were too many people pretending not to hear for him to be comfortable with this discussions. How was Hayven not bothered by any of this, surely this had to be affecting her. The way she was, the way he was, but then was there even something wrong with her? Sure she didn’t sleep with people but she probably had someone she was close to that she could go to if she needed help. He sighed, ”Yeah, really something you have there.” Jack replied quietly. Did that mean she was really just as lonely as he was only that she had conviction and courage and passion, where as Jack’s only true passion lay in revenge? He wondered that but she didn’t seem lonely, but then again maybe he didn’t either from the outside.
Jack looked up at her when she placed her hand on his shoulder, he shook his head softly as his eyes returned to the floor. How could his totally innocent motion to help turn into something so cold like this?! He glanced to his side as the corridors began to empty, people going to classes under the presumption that the war was over. As she asked if he wanted to go out Jack sighed and raised his eyes to meet hers again. ”No, you’re right, you don’t need to be sorry,” he said quietly. ”I mean my mom left because my dad is an abusive prick and I haven’t heard from her in God knows when, and my brother is dead and even when he was alive he spent so much time with Theo and all these other people that were worthy of his time that we really weren’t as close as I even make out, and I fuck about with everyone and anyone, I don’t really have any friends and the only reason I’m not dead right now is so I can ‘avenge my brother’ and kill myself in the process. So you’re right...” he smiled slightly as he thought over the pathetic mess that he’d created, that his life had spun into and why he’d admitted any of it to her he just wasn’t sure. Jack sighed, ”We don’t have to go out sometime, I’m pretty much a prick. I wont force you to spend any more time with me than you have to... I’ll let you off this once,” he joked. He felt weird having made a summary, he didn’t know how he felt it was just strange.

Hayven just stood there and listened to every word Jack said about his family and his life. She had no idea that it was that bad, but then again he never led on to anyone how he really felt.
Most of what he said made sense with why he did the things he did and he seemed to know it, but he didn't know how to change it. It made Hayven laugh to herself, two peas in a pod almost when they thought about it.
She frowned lightly when he told her she could get out of spending extra time with him, not certain if he did that to keep from getting close to someone, or if he genuinely wasn't interested in her. It was probably for the best, she could imagine what his girlfriend might so or do if she knew they spent any time outside of school together.
"I don't think you're a prick." Now that she saw multiple sides of Jack she thought it true. He was just covering up for things that sucked in his life and was perhaps even afraid. "I've an idea. Come on." Hayven grabbed for his arm and pulled him with her, up to the top of the stairs where she stopped and looked down from the top of them to the bottom floor.
Hayven took a pen out and grabbed at a piece of paper from the school's bulletin board. "Write down anything that you want for your life. This takes a little bit of soul searching, but don't let it focus around your brother, mother or your father." Hayven handed him the pen and paper.
"Then tear it from the paper, I'll do the same and we toss it off of this staircase to the bottom. That way I won't know what you wrote, you won't know what I wrote but we each know what we wrote and expected out of ourselves. It's like a goal sorta thing." Hayven just wanted to switch the emotions around and Jack's mind off of telling her his personal stuff.
