Jack frowned, he did know he was a prick and he wasn’t going to deny that. He’d made a dig at Theo for his mom being dead you couldn’t get worse than that really but instead of arguing with her Jack simply shook his head in disagreement. He followed her easily, ”Okay but I’m not turning veggie, so don’t even think about suggesting it,” Jack teased as he was always the one to add humour to an awkward situation. He looked over at Hayven, he couldn’t understand how she was able to do this, to make attempts at helping him when he was such a jerk to her. She was strong and he admired her strength, he just couldn’t motivate himself like she seemingly could.
”Starting a band are we? Looking for a babysitter?” Jack said in a pointless attempt at a guessing game he could only lose as he read from the bulletin board. It was so lame what was posted on there yet whilst he mentally victimized it he also wished he actually had something to write on it. Maybe a friend advert, what a joke. He turned his attention back to Hayven as she explained the rules of the game. But his mind was blank, ”I don’t like soul searching,” he admitted. He was afraid of soul searching, it wasn’t a nice process. ”I don’t know what I want, I don’t want anything,” Jack said stubbornly. He wanted to quit the football team or at least have the motivation to turn up to practise, he wanted to have one over Theo, he wanted to feel something other than anger and pain. He wanted the strength to be a better person but he wasn’t sure if he was ready just yet to pick up the pieces and move on because most of all he wanted his revenge fantasy to play out. He wanted to swap places with his brother, he knew Theo would have preferred that, and so would his dad have probably and maybe that was why he forced Jack to take his brother’s place on the football team as soon as he could. He used to want to be a lawyer, but he couldn’t find the conviction anymore. Jack bit down hard on his lip as he looked over to her. ”Yeah well I’m really not very good at soul searching,” he added after he’d thought through everything.

Hayven raised an eyebrow as Jack said he didn't want anything. Clearly he wanted something, he just didn't know how to say what he wanted. But that didn't mean he was getting off easily either.
"Fine, I'll go first." Hayven shrugged her shoulders and began to write something on the back of the paper she pulled from the bulletin board. "I'll even show you it." Perhaps he needed to see something to get his thought process going or maybe he was embarrassed under that shell of his to be doing something like this.
She scribbled a few words and then tore the paper, holding it up for him to read. "Go on a date." Hayven smiled smugly, that one was perhaps the easiest, because of what they 'discussed' earlier in the hallway.
After she was sure he read it, she crumbled it up and tossed it over the railing and watched it fall. Hayven let a laugh out as she watched it fall straight down and land on the floor, being kicked by a few random sneakers as students passed it.
"You have to want something. Everybody wants something, even if it's a new car for their birthday or some CD they saw in the store a week ago." Hayven held the paper and the pen in front of Jack's face as she waited patiently.
"I'm not leaving." Hayven told him in a matter of fact sort of way as she locked eyes with his.

Jack watched her like a small boy watching someone do something magnificent, like a magic trick, his eyes wide with wonder as he saw her begin to write. ”Wow,” he said quietly although he wasn’t sure what he was wowing at, he was just slightly in awe at what was going on, at how she was even helping him, but she was helping him figure out what he wanted only Jack couldn’t see the point in setting himself a goal, he already had a goal. But Hayven saw this as some sort of good exercise so he may as well make an effort, only as to what he owed her to an issue an effort on his behalf Jack just wasn’t sure he just felt as though he did.
He began to nibble on his lip as he saw what she’d written, a feeling of guilt spreading throughout him. ”I didn’t mean that, Hay, I mean it’s great you’re a virgin, if you are a virgin, or whatever I mean that’s awesome!” he tried to be encouraging, he didn’t want her to feel like she had to go on a date just because he’d mocked her for it. She was a nice girl and he was a jerk. Jack leant over the edge as he watched her goal fall flat to the floor. It was weird, a strange sort of scene as if it time was frozen for only a few moments and that caused Jack to smile softly. Jack sighed and took the pen from her. What did everyone want in life, or what was he sick of? He was sick of pain, and hate and anger. He glanced at her from the corner of his eyes, a small smile twisting on his lips as his hand began to move against the paper. ’Play in a football game’. His coach kept benching him, and in Jack’s opinion it was more than a personal distaste, his coach was horrible to him. He hated MaCDonald, he was in love with Theo and Jack really couldn’t remember playing one game in the last year. It was hardly motivating and so Jack started turning up late to games and turning to drink and cigarettes, something which wasn’t too good for his body and of course Mitchell picked up on that. It had all seemed to happen the same time as his mom had left, he always played in games before then but since then he hadn’t played one. ”That okay?” he asked quietly, ”Coachie doesn’t like my attitude, apparently, so for the past year he’s benched me.” He frowned slightly before waving goodbye to the piece of paper as he watched it fall to the ground in that timeless effort as hers had done before.

Hayven laughed at Jack and the way he back peddled his statement from previously. He may have pissed her off with the comment, but after the things she said that followe the comment, it was rightly deserved.
"No, I mean you're right to an extent. I don't live enough." She wasn't admitting if she was a virgin or not to him, but if she was going to get him out of his shell, it was only fair she budged a little.
Hayven looked at the paper with his goal on it and she smiled and nodded her head. She didn't expect anything profound, hopefully that would come to him while he did some of the things she started him off of.
"Coach is a dumb ass anyways." Hayven groaned thinking about her upcoming detention he gave her. She watched it fall to the ground with him and then gave him a wide smile.
"I think that's good enough for today." Hayven folded the paper up and tossed it away in the bin near them. "Seriously, if you ever do want to get out or something, away from all the bullshit, you can come look me up." Hayven nodded her head and looked down at her silver watch for the time.
"Friends? And I mean the real kind. No that fake bullshit we deal with every other day, day in and day out." Hayven held her hand out for a shake to Jack, looking at him, wondering if they really could be friends.

Were they to get into an argument over accepting and returning each other’s insults from before, it amused Jack slightly yet she was like the supportive friend he’d never had, taking each baby step with him and being mindlessly patient about it. But he appreciated it for a moment, it gave him a bit hope. He knew in an hour or so it would be gone but whilst he still had it he should probably make the most of it. ”So what?” Jack argued, ”Who cares about living, you have your whole life to live, don’t do something you’ll regret just because I couldn’t keep my mouth shut,” he pleaded with her, it was worth a shot but he figured she’d probably forget about it all later anyway so he didn’t have to worry too much.
”Yeah he is... he bones Theo though,” Jack grinned as he thought of Theo and Mitch, Mitch was always complimenting him and encouraging him. They were like best friends, they would always have a crack on where as Jack would always be rolling his eyes and making smart comments, and Mitch would just back chat them even more. ”We should bring him down!” Jack decided, ”Maybe that’s a more appropriate goal for me,” Or not, maybe one goal he had shouldn’t be malicious and playing hard at ball maybe could inspire him to get his life back on track. It was really what he was needing anyway. Jack looked at her, really looking at her as he searched her face. It was as though he hadn’t seen her before. ”You should have no problem getting a boyfriend, you’re an alright chick,” he teased, but he was serious. She was one of the first people who’d really given him a chance, or at least tried with him and he couldn’t even say how much he appreciated it. She didn’t make him feel so full of hate anymore, she inspired good things in him. He looked down at her outstretched hand, ”Don’t be my real friend out of pity though. I really don’t need pity, I’m doing fine,” he warned but accepted her hand shake. ”I guess you’re my first real friend, this is strange.” He chuckled but it was good.
Jack smiled and moved closer to Hayven, almost afraid that she’d batter him in fear of another kiss, but instead he wrapped his arms around her and embraced her into a hug. ”Thank you,” he whispered into her ear.

Hayven was amused that Jack seemed to care all of a sudden, thinking she would do something stupid because of what he had said. A date didn't necessarily mean it would end up in sex with her, it just meant getting to know someone.
She couldn't help but laugh when he said Theo boned the coach, she was certain it wasn't true but she let him say his piece about the coach. They all had their personal vendettas with the coach. When he mentioned bringing him down, it amused her that much more.
"Too bad Meyer's wasn't around. We could toss him in his place and let him have him." Hayven laughed deviously at the plan they had both seemed to demise, well she with his help.
Hayven pulled at her brown hair when he started complimenting her, her weight shifting in a small sign in uncomfortableness. "Thanks, I think." Hayven nudged Jack with her shoulder playfully.
"And it's not pity." She held a finger up to stop him from suggesting she'd only be friends with him because he was a sob story of sorts. "You're an alright dude." She joked back with him. Hayven was confused about him considering her his first real friend, he seemed to have hordes of them in this place.
After he took her hand, he hugged her and she stiffened for a second and then hugged him back. "No need to thank a friend for friendly duties." Hayven shrugged her shoulders and smiled, glad she had done something good other than saving an animal's life or giving some money to some wildlife fund.

Jack nodded seriously, ”Yeah man, if he doesn’t sort it out soon I might have to do it for him,” Jack threatened. Killing Mr MaCDonald wouldn’t be an easy task, especially since you’d have to get through all of his adoring football jock strap fanboys. Perhaps it was better to leave it to the professionals. But he hated being put in the same league as the nerds and guys who had never played football before in his life, benched when he knew he could probably do better than half the guys out there. He was bitter every football practise that he attended and he always ended heading back to the locker room in a foul mood. ”He’s a total sleaze as well, I don’t know how many of the students he’s slept with but he’s too good a coach for Kendall to do anything about it,” Jack groaned. The head teacher was a nice guy but he was too nice, too naive and easily manipulated and those personality traits didn’t make for a good Principal when MaCDonald was in the way.
He responded with a smile as she nudged him. This was probably the friendliest they’d been with each other but Jack wasn’t going to go and cry a sob story to every stranger who was on his back, he only told Hayven because she actually was right about him, he was a prick and he wasn’t emotionally connected to anyone. He didn’t know how to be. ”You’ll be taking that back in an hour or so,” he teased, if he kept his mouth in check maybe she wouldn’t be but Jack didn’t know how to not annoy people because when he was smiling it was usually because someone else wasn’t, he didn’t know how to share smiles and laughter too well and he wasn’t sure how long it would last. Although in Lockdown he was alright with having fun, but he was also alright with torturing the life out of half of the people there. He was surprised he hadn’t been evicted but then again he had a big mouth so maybe the risk was too high, and anyway if they did evict him he would probably just hang around the house anyway and sing really loudly or get drunk or something else which would annoy the hell out of them until they took him back. There was no way to get rid of him except for killing him.
”Yeah, yeah there is.” he responded as he pulled out of the hug. He leaned against the notice board and then back to Hayven, ”I suppose this means I should be a little bit nicer to you, my weird little tree hugger friend.” Jack mused, that would be hard to do, he always seemed to have a smart comment to sprout at her and the other people. Maybe it would be a learning experience.

Hayven had no idea if Jack was serious about the coach thing, but she decided knowing how much he joked around that he was joking. Hayven wrinkled her nose as Jack told her about the coach's extra curricular activities. She wasn't surprised, she was just glad to know she wasn't the only one to think that he was that type of teacher.
When he mentioned how she would be taking back their friendship, Hayven only shook her head. "Doubtful, unless you tried to kill me." Hayven joked lightly, knowing that he wouldn't of course.
Hayven felt like sticking her tongue out at Jack as he called her a 'tree hugger' but she bit down on her lip to keep from doing that.
"So do you think tonight you'll be able to take part in that game you want to play in?" Hayven had no idea how long the coach had benched him for, though it would suck when recruiters came and wanted to offer scholarships to players.
"Maybe, I'd even come and watch the game." Hayven didn't really like football or sports in general, but offering to support a friend during a game was more friendly duties.
"Or are you going to blow him off?" Hayven laughed lightly, a wicked plan coming to her mind. "Maybe even go to the Meyer's place?" Hayven shrugged, wondering when the group was going to check out the place again.

Jack laughed, ”Damn, it was my plan too.” He teased. Well at one point it was his plan but only for a second before he reasoned with himself and realised that she wasn’t Michael Myers and that he actually had no reason to kill her other than she was right about him. But now that they knew everything or rather she knew everything it didn’t feel so bad. He pulled a face at her question. ”No way. He always benches me no matter what. I think for him to unbench me we’d have to pay him like $3000.” Coachie certainly didn’t like him, he probably wouldn’t like Hayven either otherwise Jack would have used her to beg Coachie to let him play. Any female girl seemed to be able to woe Coachie into something even if it was getting his least favourite player to play. He smiled softly at her encouragement, ”That would be nice but I’d only be on the bench so there wouldn’t be much to see... not that you’d be going to see me of course... Theo’s playing, and John so... there’s enough eye candy there for you anyway,” Jack sighed. He was getting increasingly sick of Theo nowadays, he was annoying him beyond belief how everything just worked out. He got everything handed on a plate to him and he would most certainly get a scholarship into college when Jack would be stuck in Haddonfield, probably fixing up cars or something just biding his time. He hadn’t wanted to go to college, even now it was something that he wanted to do but money was too tight and since he pretended it wasn’t there was nothing he could even do about it anyway. He’d probably do law if he could just to support his childhood interest, maybe respark the passion that had gone out of life, but it was never going to happen. He was here to rot.
”I can’t blow him off on a game day or he’ll kick me off the team for good. I have to still go and get my kit on and then just sit. It’s mostly frustrating and I usually get into fights with the shit players,” Jack shrugged. He was just angry that they stole his light, that they stole his potential scholarship when they could barely point out which object was the ball. He looked at her with a sigh, ”You know my sob story, so what’s yours? Why aren’t you an intimate sop?”

Hayven rolled her eyes at the mention of 'eye candy' on the field for her to look at. If she wanted eye candy she would have been going to the games a long time ago.
The conversation turned in a serious direction and Hayven sighed. "Everyone portrays something they aren't." Hayven shrugged and leaned her back against the banister.
"Not just kids either, parents do it a lot." Hayven pulled at her brown hair and sighed. "You never wondered why I was the only kid in my family?" Hayven's parents did fairly well in their jobs and they could have had more children if one thought about it from a financial point of view.
"I think one of me is all they could handle to be honest." Hayven joked lightly with herself and Jack. "Maybe I'm just used to being by myself most the time." Hayven pressed her lips together and shrugged once again.
"Must suffer from that only child syndrome." Hayven rolled her eyes and turned her attention to some students who were walking in the hallways.
"Or maybe it's because I don't want to pretend to be something I'm not in a few years." Hayven blinked as she watched the kids intently as if she was focusing on something more than just the other students.
"Like I said, no more bullshit." Hayven turned her head back to Jack a forced smile upon her face.

Jack listened to her story curiously. Yet somehow it all seemed to make sense if he was understanding her correctly. He stood opposite her, nodding every so often. ”I guess I figured you didn’t like to share your toys so your parents figured not to mate again,” Jack teased but he soon dropped his joker act, now really wasn’t the time for him to be a jerk and tease her about things when she was explaining things to him. She really did act like an individual, very opinionated and a lot of times hard to get on with. ”No more bullshit, then stop pretending to smile.” Jack pointed out as he made a step towards her and reached for a hold of her hand to give it a gentle squeeze of comfort.
”Do you mean that people struggle to... identify with you?” Jack asked, he was going to say like but asking her if people didn’t like her just seemed an impossibly mean concept to bring across her right now. He sighed in eager fascination as he looked over to her. Would Hayven be the one person he was emotionally intimate with, like a real friend? It was strange. ”I never used to cheat on Larrissa you know. I was faithful to her for about a year and then something just clicked, I don’t know what. We just kept arguing, maybe it was Lockdown...” he mused. He did think that at one point he loved her but maybe it was something else, something he didn’t understand. Maybe it was just lust. ”I wish I could get that close with her again but after everything I think maybe the only reason we’re together is for appearances. I mean I treat her like absolute shit, I sleep about, I fuck about, we don't really do dates, we just I don't know... but I’d go fucking nuts if I found out she was sleeping about and I’d probably try and kill whatever guy it was with. I don’t know if it’s a jealousy thing or if I care,” he sighed and glanced over at her. ”You should just be yourself Hay, you’ll find someone who’ll want you for that soon enough anyway.”

Hayven smiled wryly at Jack as he mentioned her not wanting to share toys, a feeling of wanting to stick her tongue out at him passed through her mind yet again.
When he told her to stop smiling and stop pretending, Hayven's entire face turned into something else. It was more serious, a frown appearing on it and her eye brows arching for a second. It only deepened at his question, as if she understood what he had meant by it.
Her eyes changed when he confessed why he thought he did the things he did to Larissa and she nodded, as if she understood his reasoning. She bit her tongue to tell him that they should just move on if all they do is argue, but he was trying to be nice to her, so she had to return the favor. But every fiber of her bones and skin wanted to tell him her opinion of their situation, but then he might find it hard to 'identify' with her again.
When he suggested her being herself, she snorted lightly. Hayven had done anything but be herself, she didn't even know what her true personality was anymore. Parents wanted you to be something you weren't, friends or classmates wanted to see a different person and even teachers watched with scrutiny.
"Easier said than done." If she thought about it, Hayven rebelled just about every type of person someone wanted her to be, which made her who she was today.
"Besides, if they can't tolerate me now, fuck 'em." Hayven laughed lightly, but knew that it wasn't the entire true way to how she felt. Sooner or later she would have to figure it out or if she stayed this way, she'd probably only end up 'identifying' with just Jack for the rest of her school years.

Jack shrugged, he didn’t really know if that was true or false. He didn’t know if he acted like himself because he didn’t really know who he was but then he didn’t know how to be anyone else either. ”Maybe,” he half agreed. He tilted his head as he looked at her. ”So you like to dress like this too?” Jack asked. It wasn’t as if she dressed for the boys and that was strange to Jack because most girls did dress like that if they didn’t have an excuse not to. What was her excuse? She wasn’t overweight or anything so he was sure she would do fine, only she wouldn’t allow herself to. ”You could sell yourself a lot better if you wore skirts more often,” he advised her, although maybe the term sell yourself was wrong but you couldn’t change your personality overnight and Jack would always be what he was, at least for the time being.
He frowned at her negativity, well that was no good and it wouldn’t get her anywhere. ”Well maybe you should make yourself tolerable and then you might find people who like you and you could get a new Jack,” he teased, although that Jack would probably be a lot nicer to her and not try and kiss her with cheap feels before they made friends. ”He wouldn’t be as hot though,” Jack added as a teasing afterthought. He put his arm around her shoulders and began to walk with her. Maybe he could help her get some publicity. ”Why don’t you not spend a day with Larrissa and she can introduce you to her friends, take you out shopping and get you involved in some social stuff?” he suggested. Larrissa would probably hate it but he was sure he could convince her one way or the other. It would be like charity of some sort, to help those in need of being helped.

Hayven's head tilted to the side when Jack asked her if she liked to dress the way she did. What was wrong with it? Sure, she didn't have short mini skirts that went up to; well.....one could only imagine what it wouldn't be covering.
The look on Hayven's face was one of terror and disgust at the mention of 'selling herself.' Her once smiling face turned into a straight line as she pressed her lips together. Again, the real Jack was around again and she had to remember that this would always be the way of Jack.
Hayven smiled again when he talked about a 'new Jack,' Finding that perhaps almost an impossible task in reality. Hayven laughed when his ego struck again and she nodded her head. "No, probably not." She stroked his ego back, she didn't mind his comments like that. It was rather amusing that he found himself to almost be gods greatest gift to the women at school here.
Hayven's nose wrinkled at the mention of Larissa's name and she shook her head. "I think I'd be better off asking my roomies, if I decided I wanted or needed help." Hayven cringed thinking about her time being spent with Larissa, it would be intolerable.
"I don't want to be a Larissa follower; no offense." Larissa was in the group of preppy students and Hayven never wanted to be like; well.....her.

Jack didn’t understand the way her face turned from relaxed with him to well disgusted, he didn’t know why it was like that. What had he said to make her feel that way? He shrugged his shoulders, surely she’d just thought of something outside of the conversation that upset her. ”Are you okay?” Jack asked Hayven curiously. Girls always confused him, they would be fine one minute and then the next suicidal and no matter what he did they would always continue to complain. In Jack’s mind girls just didn’t make sense. They made problems for themselves which didn’t need to exist. He rolled his eyes thinking of it, he hated it when Larrissa was in a mood. She would always snap at him and then after about three hours of his attempts of getting what was wrong out of her she would end up slapping him or something and accusing him of cheating, and then they’d have a massive argument which later turned into a big chat about their relationship and by the end of it they’d be okay but then Jack would go and cheat again. But the thing is he was absolutely sure that she was cheating on him, he’d heard more than a few rumours about it. Mostly from the guys on the football team, usually from the guys he didn’t get on with so that’s why he didn’t know if he should believe it or not.
Jack’s face lit up as she agreed with him. She was only human. He liked having the ego he had, especially when there was people who would back him up. Sometimes he was sure people were taking the piss out by doing it but Jack twisted the context and once again his ego would be fed. ”Aww, but she’d love to help you! It would be so exciting for her. You’d be like her doll!” he exclaimed. One thing Larrissa loved was makeovers and the like. Jack wouldn’t take that away from her because of his stubborn friend. ”As long as you didn’t mention that I kissed you you guys would get on great,” at least once Larrissa had tortured her and made sure her appearance was good enough to hang with him. Most probably. He decided to leave that part of it out. Jack frowned, ”But I’m a Larrissa follower!” he insisted in an attempt to be persuasive. ”Well I’m not, I don’t think, but neither would you be. You’d be her friend. There’s only the losers who think they’re great that are her followers! Trust me, you’d be well in!” He smiled. ”She can work wonders,”
